WHY DON'T YOU WAKE ME WHEN I VISIT?

I often wake in the night
feeling faint angel patterns on
my skin
ghost kisses in my hair, on my
wrists
collarbone
hips
because you were here whispering
secrets
built on the foundation of
years,
background noise all this time
now in the spotlight.
The space between your skin and
mine is miles
but so close I can feel the
electricity
fucking sparking in the delicate space.
It may be miles
but at night I swear
there's only inches.
I often wake in the night
with swollen lips
that taste like
desperation
and my breath scrapes my throat.
Just dreams
of closing the distance
but i fucking swear you visit
in the dark
and leave proof all over my
body
that only I can
see.

SAY CHEESE

They say

you photograph the things

you're afraid to lose.

You document a sunset

in case you never see another

that looks like

cotton candy.

You photograph a newborn baby

because you'll never see

anything else so

pure.

You don't capture me in

snapshots.

Never bathe me in a blinding

camera shudder,

never etched me on

shining paper, using my ink

to stain.

I'm a flashbulb memory,

you don't want to

remember.

Maybe because you're leaving soon.

But maybe if I leave first,

you'll panic at the thought of

forgetting.
